Jim has been working with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe in establishing their Government contracting efforts. In early 2019, he formally joined PIE-PS (Pamunkey Indian Enterprises-Professional Services) as a senior advisor. PIE-PS recently received SBA Tribal 8a certification, it’s the first and only Virginia based tribe to earn this certification. In Jan 2016, he co-founded CAV Angels, a Angel Investment club for UVA Alumni, with a small group of great entrepreneurs and investors in C'ville. He continues to work with several private equity and angel investment groups. He also teaches entrepreneurship at the UVA School of Engineering. In between all that, he also sits on several corporate, Community and non-profit boards and advisory boards, including the TomTomFestival (Charlottesville), Sorensen Institute, UVA Health Foundation, PFP Cyber, ImpactMakers, and others.

Previously, he had the great honor of being appointed Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1/2010-1/2014. He ran a Secretariat that was responsible for Economic Development, Job Creation, Tourism, Film, Industry Regulation and Safety, Housing and other Commerce related fields. He has traveled all over the commonwealth meeting the great people of VA and experiencing the beauty of this wonderful state!!!

He previously served as President of Totus Lighting Solutions, a "green energy" LED streetlight and indoor lighting startup with international presence, was actively involved in working/mentoring with several other technology startup companies and small businesses, and owned CHM, an IT services firm specializing in Government (DoD and Civilian) contracting. That company grew from 5 people to 550 in about 9 years.
