Amy Garmer is the Director of the Aspen Institute Dialogue on Public Libraries, a multi-year initiative on the future of public libraries created in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that brings together leaders, visionaries and practitioners from diverse stakeholder groups to explore the development of an asset-based approach to re-envisioning public libraries in the 21st century. Amy has spent two decades in public policy at the leading edge of new media, communications and information technologies and practices exploring the impacts of these technologies on individuals, communities, professions and democratic institutions in the United States and abroad. She has directed US and international journalism and communications projects at the Aspen Institute and served as Associate Director of the Communications and Society Program. Previously, she served on the staff of U.S. Senator Sam Nunn. Amy holds degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin.
